Courses & Workshops

My workshop and kiln building field are just a few miles from the quintessential towns of Bath, Bradford on Avon and Frome. Located at Stowford Manor Farm amongst the beautiful rolling countryside of the Wiltshire Somerset borders and within walking distance of B&Bs, camping, pubs, cream teas, castles, craft workshops and river swimming.

Playing with Clay
In addition to traditional techniques, I offer workshops in African hand building methods together with a range of experimental forming processes. These workshops can be combined with lo-tech firing, eg: pit firing, sawdust firing and paper kiln firings.

Playing with Fire
From my workshop I run lo-tech kiln firing and occassional kiln building courses run over two weekends. The aim is to show through participation how kilns capable of large amounts of heat can be built and fired using scrap, recycled or renewable materials. I also offer small group Raku sessions at the workshop or at your own venue or event throughout the UK and overseas. Raku refers to a process of glazing and firing which originates in Japan. The firing is rapid and very exciting, with pots being successively removed from the hot kiln, submerged in sawdust and then quenched in water and cleaned in just over an hour! The process of Raku firing offers group participation with the opportunity to gain a clear understanding of the chemical changes that take place during firing.
